Basic process of sand casting

A sand casting, called casting molding sand, and many relatively inexpensive refractory even for use steel foundry. Also the sand, is a suitable bonding agent (usually clay) or occurs mixed with the sand. The mixture is moistened, usually with water, but sometimes with other substances, strength and plasticity of the clay to develop and make the aggregate suitable for molding. The sand is usually in system frames or boxes called flask mold. The mold cavities and gate systems are created by compacting the sand around models, or patterns, or carved directly into the sand.

A metal casting sand casting process characterized by the use of sand as the mold material. Can the term “sand casting” also refers to something produced by sand casting process. Sand castings produced in specialized factories called foundries. More than 70% of all metal castings produced by sand casting process.

It steps in this process:

1.Place pattern in sand to create a mold.

2.Incorporate the pattern and sand in gating system.

3.Remove the pattern.

4.Fill the mold cavity with molten metal.

5.Allow the metal to cool.

6.Break away the sand mold and remove the casting.
